Before installing a satellite dish, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with its types and how it works. The receiving antenna is a parabolic dish that independently receives satellite microwaves from television repeaters.
The parabolic shape allows the incoming signal to be reflected to the center of the structure. Closer to the focus of the dish is an automatically tuned horn irradiator that amplifies the received signal. Convectors select radio waves and transmit them to the converter.
It converts radio waves and electromagnetic signals into electrical components. The signal from the converter, or receiver, is sent to the TV receiver. Antennas are of two types:
Direct-focus antennas are positioned so that the signal is collected directly in the center of the dish. In offset designs, the reception focus is slightly offset, and they are mounted almost vertically, which eliminates the accumulation of atmospheric precipitation. In direct-focus antennas, the convector covers a significant part of the received area, which becomes almost invisible with increasing diagonal.
Before choosing satellite equipment, it is advisable to decide on the choice of satellite. If the side of the house falls within the area of transmitting waves, then the antenna can be installed directly on the outer wall. Some owners manage to install and configure the dish on a loggia or glazed balcony.
If necessary, the structure is mounted directly on the roof of the house. The location of the bracket is determined using a compass, orienting it according to the cardinal points. When placing the antenna on the roof, you can use the already installed samples and copy the position of the existing dishes.
The mount must be able to withstand the effects of strong winds on the antenna. Using clamps, the dish is installed on the vertical bracket post and slightly tightened. Then proceed to determine the location of the antenna and set up satellite TV.
Connecting and setting up the dish
Before connecting the antenna, you should put a special tip on the cable. To do this, remove 1.5 cm of insulation from the edge of the cable, cut off the foil, clean the central core by 1 cm and screw the tip on so that the wire does not protrude outward. Both ends of the cable are prepared in this way.
Then connect one end to the convector and the other to the receiver. If there are several convectors, the connection is made through a diskette. To set up a satellite dish on your own, without assistance, you can resort to using special equipment. It is installed in the gap between the receiver and the convector.
As soon as the device starts to emit a sound signal when the dish rotates, it means that the antenna is installed directly on the satellite. In the absence of this device, you will have to constantly turn to the tuner and check the signal quality. This operation will take much more time.
